Investing in China: tools and prospects

Beijing, December 4, 2010 – The international debate “Doing business in China: comparative experiences”, organized by Aspen Institute Italia in collaboration with the Italy-China Foundation, will be held today. A press conference will follow the event and will include the participation of Cesare Romiti, President, Fondazione Italia Cina, Milan, Joseph S. Nye, University Distinguished Service Professor, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA and Fu Jun, Professor and Dean, Peking University, Beijin.

China’s role in the global economy will be discussed during the debate, with special attention given to the need to reduce large international macroeconomic imbalances. The most important issues to be considered include the risks of protectionism in China and in the United States, the global impact of the euro crisis and finally the business opportunities that could emerge from a tighter relationship between China and Europe.

The event wraps up the first “China, Europe, U.S. Trialogue” which analyzed the possibility of cooperation between the three strategic actors on the global stage: China, Europe and the United States. After an analysis of the challenges presented by the aftermath of the economic crisis, the central issues addressed were new forms of international governance, energy supply, environmental sustainability and new risks in security and international stability.
