Imaginary lives, three Italian contemporary cases of biofiction
This thesis aims to scan the literary phenomenon of biofiction through the study of three specific contemporary texts. From a methodological point of view, this thesis uses a critical and comparative approach after having established a solid theoretical, narratological base. The taxonomy of Riccardo Castellana will be the main starting point; different perspectives regarding the epistemological status of the novels and their effects on a competent audience will be discussed. The fictional nature of the work comes into conflict with the need for literature to say something true to life about reality. The stories examined contain both common themes and poetic licence, the urge to invent and manipulate reality. The gaps in the stories require a cognitive effort on behalf of the readers; this literary genre has many important implications regarding the relationship between the fictional and the real world in that it offers an interpretation of human complexity. In the contemporary world where it is so hard to discern what is true from what is false, this kind of writing, as indicated upon analysis of the three samples chosen, appears to act as a means of orientation in the world and is capable of satisfying the quest for truth in a context of mistrust and scepticism. Biofiction, representing partially the life of an individual, is a hybrid narrative sub-genre consisting of the story and biographical content, which through its specificity and by dint of the reader’s efforts, establishes a new identity of the biographical subject thus modifying society's shared imagination and recollection. Each biofiction has a wide range of literary and non-literary references and each work is an open text with extensive links to music, cinematography and drama.

Vies imaginées, trois cas de biofictions italiennes contemporaines
Cette thèse propose d’analyser le phénomène littéraire de la biofiction à travers de l’étude de trois textes spécifiques contemporains. D’un point de vue méthodologique, cette thèse utilise une approche critique et comparative après avoir établi une solide base théorique narratologique. La taxinomie de Riccardo Castellana sera le point de départ principal en croisant différentes perspectives sur le statut épistémologique des romans et sur les effets dans un public compétent. La fiction des ouvrages se présent en conflit avec la nécessité de la littérature de dire quelque chose de vrai sur le réel. Dans les récits ici évalués il y aura la possibilité de trouver des thématiques communes plutôt qu’une tension à la poétique de l’invention et à la manipulation du réel. Les espaces vides des récits demandent toujours un travail cognitif et ce genre a des implications littéraires importantes sur le rapport de la fiction avec notre monde réel lorsqu’il s’offre comme interprétation de la complexité humaine. Ce type d'écriture, en analysant les trois cas sélectionnés, fonctionne comme exercice d’orientation sur le monde et elle est capable de mieux répondre à la nécessité de tracer la vérité dans un contexte de méfiance envers la vérité. Si dans la réalité contemporaine il est de plus en plus difficile de discerner le vrai du faux, la lecture de la biofiction peut représenter l’exercice et l’outil pour s’orienter dans le réel et pour le comprendre ; en même temps les ouvrages biofictionnels sont des miroirs de la réalité contemporaine. La biofiction, en tant que représentation partielle de la vie d’un individu, est un sous-genre narratif hybride composé par le roman et l’écriture biographique et dans sa spécificité elle établit grâce à l’effort du lecteur une nouvelle identité du sujet biographique en modifiant l’imaginaire et la mémoire collective. Chaque biofiction a beaucoup de références littéraires et extra-littéraires, chaque œuvre est un intertexte ouvert à des liens avec la musique, la cinématographie et le théâtre.

Vite immaginate, tre casi di biofiction italiane contemporanee
Questa tesi propone di analizzare il fenomeno letterario della biofiction attraverso lo studio di tre specifici testi contemporanei. Da un punto di vista metodologico, questa tesi utilizza un approccio critico e comparativo dopo aver stabilito una solida base narratologica teorica. La tassonomia di Riccardo Castellana sarà il principale punto di partenza incrociando diverse prospettive sullo stato epistemologico dei romanzi e sugli effetti in un pubblico competente.
La finzione delle opere si presenta in conflitto con la necessità della letteratura di dire qualcosa di vero sulla realtà. Nelle storie qui valutate ci sarà la possibilità di trovare temi comuni insieme ad una tensione con la poetica dell'invenzione e della manipolazione della realtà. Gli spazi vuoti delle narrazioni richiedono sempre un lavoro cognitivo e questo genere ha importanti implicazioni sulla relazione della finzione con il nostro mondo reale in quanto si offre come interpretazione della complessità umana. Questo tipo di scrittura, analizzando i tre casi selezionati, funziona come un esercizio di orientamento al mondo ed è in grado di rispondere meglio alla necessità di rintracciare la verità in un contesto di sfiducia nella verità.
Se nella realtà contemporanea è sempre più difficile discernere il vero dal falso, la lettura della biofiction può rappresentare l'esercizio e lo strumento per orientarsi nel reale e comprenderlo;
allo stesso tempo, le opere di biofiction sono specchi della realtà contemporanea. La biofiction come rappresentazione parziale della vita di un individuo è un sottogenere narrativo ibrido composto dal romanzo e dalla scrittura biografica, nella sua specificità stabilisce grazie allo sforzo del lettore una nuova identità del soggetto biografico modificando l'immaginazione e la memoria collettiva. Ogni biofiction avrà vari riferimenti letterari ed extra-letterari ed è un testo aperto con collegamenti alla musica, alla cinematografia e al teatro.
