COMPOSE Newsletter No1, June 2017

LET'S COMPOSE

Partners from 11 Mediterranean regions started to implement a new project, which is a follow up of previous "Green partnerships". The aim of this project is to increase the share of renewable ener- gy sources in energy mix strategies and plans and to propose a new model for planning the development of renewables in rural communities at decision making and planning expert levels.

For a good cooperation and the transparency

To ensure an effective and efficient Start- up of the project, partners joined a common meeting in Rome and in June at Crete. Meetings aim regular monitoring of the activities and defining steps for further work. During that time, all partners already have started with the implementa- tion of pilot cases, focused on RES and EE measures. Project has a strong associated Part- ners (ASP) network, with wide outreach in the MED are beyond.

Dear all,

Project COMPOSE started together with the ratification of Paris Agreement about cli- mate changes. The ambitions to achieve behavioural changes in energy use and to activate thinking about the climate changes, are continuously supported by numerous of European programmes and projects. The lead partner of COMPOSE is a Chamber of agriculture and forestry and represents the interest of land and forest owners of Slo- venia.

Why we decided to be a part of the COMPOSE energy story? Our country year after year faces climate changes, of which consequences start to threat the sustainability of our natural resources. And in this story we are only a small part of Mediterranean space, which is, in regards to climate changes, the most vulnerable part of Europe. To- gether with 10 partners we recognized the importance of decision making processes, implemented at the local, regional and planning expert level. You as a stakeholder are an important link, which ensure recognisability of the project, as well as a successful implementation of 15 pilot cases in Mediterranean regions. We are sure, that all suc- cessful stories can start at the micro– level, so you are kindly asked to support our ef- forts for better future.

Update your energy knowledge!

The Nobel prize co- winner and COM- POSE' project Ambassador prof. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj appeals to better knowledge about regional, local, nation- al and European strategic documents and issues about energy. " The time for a theoretical discussion about climate changes is over, because we

are already touching the consequences.

The worst fact is, that we don't react", stressed she in the interview for "La Re- publica", published on January,

19th2017.

How can renewable energy help to develop rural communities?

Partners started to implement 15 pilot actions with the aim to demonstrate potential of energy efficiency measures (EEM) and introduction of renewable energy sources (RES) to local com- munities. We proposed 5 thematic areas to empower local authorities/ communities for an innovative development of local potentials. All together municipalities will gain from energy savings and some sall scale RES and EE in- vestments, co- financed by the project.

COMPOSE builds the common methodolo- gy

At the 2nd project partners meeting at Crete, the common methodology was presented by Geek partner TUC. Based on previous Green partnerships, it keeps steps, developed there and upgrades it with evaluation methods and indicators. Following steps are provided :

3rd Project partners meeting- save the date from 3. – 6.12.2017!

3d project meeting will be hosted by

www.ena.com.pt . On 6th of December COM- POSE will host national meeting of energy agencies. Two panel sessions and a

roundtable will offer in depth discussion about local and global cooperation in climate change mitigation and adaptation and the role of ener- gy agencies in territorial cooperation projects.

Prof. Lucka Kajfez Bogataj, co- winner of No- bel prize from University of Ljubljana, Filipe Duarte Santos from Nova University of Lisbon and Viratia Soromenho. Marques from Lisbon University will give some introductory ideas and a global vision about coming climate changes!
