5.5 CONCLUSIONI

Attraverso i dati raccolti e lo studio statistico effettuato con il nostro studio, siamo giunti alla conclusione che la biopsia, eseguita durante l’intervento di orchidopessi, resta la metodica predittiva più utile per valutare il rischio di infertilità futura nei pazienti criptorchidi unilaterali.

Le indagini istologiche non possono essere sostituite da valutazioni volumetriche mediante indagine ecografica, data la debole correlazione dimostrata dai casi registrati: un volume testicolare maggiormente ridotto non correla strettamente con un danno istopatologico peggiore e, allo stesso modo, ad un volume meno ridotto non corrispondono necessariamente alterazioni microscopiche di minore entità.

L’indagine ecografica resta comunque un’importante metodica diagnostica utile ai fini dell’intervento chirurgico e al fine di monitorare, durante il follow up, la

crescita del testicolo precedentemente sottoposto ad orchidopessi e la simmetria con quello controlaterale.
