Il presente studio effettuato sulla popolazione italiana bianca caucasica di 14 anni ha evidenziato che la forma d’arcata più frequentemente rilevata è la ovale, sia a livello mascellare che mandibolare. La seconda forma per frequenza è la conica soprattutto a livello superiore. La forma meno frequente è la quadrata.

L’arcata superiore presenta valori millimetrici maggiori rispetto all’inferiore e per questo è più grande. Tra le forme d’arcata la conica è quella mediamente più grande, l’ovale la minore.

I maschi presentano arcate più grandi delle femmine ed hanno forma mascellare conica ed ovale in eguale percentuale, le femmine ovale. L’arcata inferiore nei maschi è di poco maggiormente conica rispetto alla forma ovale, nelle femmine è ovale.

Le ratio molari (RM) tra forme d’arcata diverse, sesso e tipo di arcata hanno valori simili.

Le ratio canine (RC) invece variano molto risultando maggiori nella forma d’arcata quadrata e minori nella conica, maggiori nelle femmine rispetto ai maschi, maggiori nell’arcata mandibolare.
