Courses
» IIM courses in 2019 were as follows (higher education, university and professional):
» Master of Science in Hydrography and Oceanography (LM 75), in collaboration with the University of Genoa. The course is certified by the FIG-ICA-IHO IBSC (International Board for Standard of Competence) and prepares for the Certificate of Hydrographic Surveyor Category A, which is the highest IHO-FIG-ICA level in hydrography;
» The first edition, 2017-2019, was completed in 2019;
» In October 2019, the second year of the second edition (2018-2020) began with two military and three civilian attendees and the first year of the third edition (2019-2021) began with 20 students;
» The Cat. B Intermediate Course for military and civilian attendees was not carried out in 2019;
» The course for magnetic compass compensators was not carried out in 2019;
An English course was attended by IIM military and civilian personnel between March and June, organized by inLingua Napoli, complete with a final exam.

Prof. Roberta Ivaldi
Roberta Ivaldi, Associate Professor of Marine Geology at the Istituto Idrografico della Marina, is guarantor of the Master’s Degree in “Hydrography and Oceanography” (University of Genoa), member of the Faculty of the Scuola di Dottorato di Ricerca Internazionale EMAS (Earth and Marine Sciences), member of the GEBCO SCUFN (General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans - Sub-Committee on Undersea Feature Names), member of the Regional Mapping Committee - Editorial Board of the GEBCO IBCAO (International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean), IIM representative at the Arctic Table of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) and scientific coordinator of High North research project.
In 2019 Prof Ivaldi taught in the post-graduate course “Marine Geology for Hydrography” (University of Genoa, LM 75) in “Hydrography & Oceanography” (40 hours). She further took part in the IIM Consiglio didattico dell’Istituto Idrografico, Consiglio del Corso di Laurea in Scienze Ambientali of the University of Genoa, and the Collegio Docenti of the Dottorato di Ricerca Internazionale EMAS of the Universities of Ferrara and Cadiz.
Prof Ivaldi was further part of boards in the following exams: Marine Geology, Marine Geophysics and Oceanographic Measuring.
In 2019, Prof Ivaldi supervised two master’s theses in “Hydrography and Oceanography” (Mapping and seabed classification with RGB imaging by Nunzio
Moschetto and AUVs spread seafloor mapping and AUV Nereide settled for pipeline Oil & Gas field inspection by Mirko Zaquini), and tutored four PhD students from the Scuola di Dottorato di Ricerca Internazionale EMAS (University of Ferrara), one from the Scuola di Dottorato di Ricerca STAT (Scienze e Tecnologie per l’Ambiente e il Territorio – University of Genova) as well as an internship at the Istituto Idrografico for SIOI (Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale).
Furthermore, Prof Ivaldi took part in the GEBCO IBCAO international project “Seabed 2030”, contributed to the exhibition La Marina italiana al Polo Nord:

integrated multidisciplinary project and took care of the planning, execution and management stages of the High North 19 campaign with the IIM Marine Geophysics and Oceanography Department, and commander Maurizio Demarte.

Prof Ivaldi carried out seminar activities on research in the Arctic as part of the High North research program at the SIOI Master in “Sustainable development, geopolitics of resources and Arctic studies” and tutored Dr. Andrea Grieco’s internship on Caratteri dei fondali e governance globale per una sostenibilità ambientale.
Prof Ivaldi took part in the International Film Festival of Sestri Levante (Genoa), together with the commander Maurizio Demarte, on the High North Program.
She coordinated a seminar on Blue Growth - Australia’s Marine National Facilities, organized on 26 July 2019 by the Italian Embassy in Canberra, Australia, in collaboration with Dr. Barbara Musso of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).
Together with commander Maurizio Demarte, head of the IIM Marine Geophysics and Oceanography Department, Prof Ivaldi coordinated the workshop on “Scoglio d’Affrica” at the IIM, November 26-27.
