The Printing & Distribution Department answers directly to the IIM Vice-Director and is divided into two offices: the Distribution Office and the Printing Office.
The Distribution Office is in charge of the distribution of charts and publications issued by the IIM and by other charting agencies. It includes a
Correction Office, to make sure that users receive accurately updated products.

During 2019, a feasibility study for the printing on demand of UK charts, currently marketed by private companies, was started. The purpose is to reduce overall procurement costs for operational needs.
The Printing Office is in charge of the composition and printing of all IIM editorial products, promotional photos and videos, also in cooperation with external companies.
For the opening of the renovated Nautica Shop, the IIM Printing Office created and produced prints and a promotional video. The project was presented at Progettare il Paese, an event by the Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti (National Council of Architects) at Forte di Bard, in Valle d’Aosta.
Furthermore, the Printing Office was in charge of the cartographic aspects of Un mare di gioia, una scuola di vita, a project dedicated to boys and girls on autism spectrum, who were given the opportunity to sail from Sanremo to Trieste on board the Pole Pole.
Support was further provided to High North 19 Arctic expedition, with two members of the Printing Office taking care of videos and photographs, and to the IIM External Relations Office and the Public Information and Communication Office of the Navy General Staff for the 59th Genoa Boat Show, with video and photo coverage of the event.
The office produced an anastatic copy of the original book by Captain Enrico D’Albertis, Ciarpe Frastagli e Scampoli, with images from his first trip around the world (1877-1878), from Livorno to Plymouth. The volume is exhibited at the Museo delle Culture del Mondo in the Castello d’Albertis, Genoa, together with its digital version, which can be consulted and browsed.
