Summary
Our experience in the application of enzymatic pre-treatment of fabrics made of natural fibres showed a possibility of substituting traditional alkali
scouring of cotton woven fabrics(the employment of pectinolytic enzymes happened to be effective in removing non-cellulosic substances from cotton and linen fabrics)
Controlled application of enzymatic pretreatment of woven fabrics made of natural cellulose fibers allows for an efficient removal of impurities from these fibers resulting in the improvement of sorptive properties and good penetration chemical modifiers as well, e.g. hybrid metal oxides, into the textile structure.
Moreover, the use of enzymatic treatment is more energy-efficient compared to the alkaline treatment, due to the significantly lower temperature of the enzymatic (60 °C) than the chemical (98°C) process.
Organic cotton pretreatment needs application of enzymes, no chemicals! It contains much more impurities than conventional one and in order for dying or modifying or functionaliziation.
