POLYETHYLENE -PEHD-PEHMW-PEUHMW:
The polyethylene have an elevated resistance to the chemical agents, absorbs little water and it has good electric property. It uses normally with temperatures among the 40°c and + 80°c.
The PE is waterproof, to saline solutions, to acids, alkali, alcohol and gasoline. Underside of 60°c the PE is insoluble in all the organic solvents. The PE is unscented, they flavour and physiologically harmless and it is applicable to the in the field food employment. The PE is easily weldable with the traditional systems of welding. On account of the not polarity and of the little tackiness, the PE presents of diffi
culties of gluing and in the decorations. Surfaces of PE are can stamp, paint or glue using adhe
sive to contact only after an oxiding pro- treatment to the plasma, or with luminescent discharge, singes oxidizer, ozone or in a solution of chromic acid. In mechanical workmanship of the PE it be necessary take care that the material not overheats.
PE 300/ PE-HD
Polyethylene with high molecular weight, molecular weight over 250.000 g/mol extruded quality
Properties:
impact resistant also at low temperatures
high elongation
very good electrical and dielectric properties
very low water absorption
low steam permeability
high chemical stability
good protection against stress cracking
food safe
soft surface (low tensile strength)
small specific weight
well welding
water-resistant Applications:
Transport containers, pumps and valve parts, parts in the tank construction, components with medical applications, gaskets, sliding profiles, components for the food industry.
sliding and wearing parts in racking plants + 80°c.
The ultra high molecular weight Polyethylen Has a high abraison resistance (very good glide characteristics) and a high toughness at the same time. The chemical and the crack resistance are optimised in comparison to the standard PE-HD. The operating temperature of PE-UHMW is from -150 °C to +90 °C.
PE 500/ PE-HMW
Polyethylene with - high molecular weight, molecular weight over 500.000 g/mol pressed quality
- increased mechanical properties - high cutting and scratch resistance - good sliding properties
Applications:
- food-industry and gastronomy
- refrigeration chambers as ram protection - swinging doors
PE 1.000 / PE-UHMW
Polyethylene with ultra high molecular weight, molecular weight of 1.000.000 to 8.000.000 g/mol
Pressed quality
- Good mechanical properties
- Optimal cutting and scratch resistance - Optimal sliding properties
Applications:
- food-industry and gastronomy
- refrigeration chambers as ram protection - swinging doors
- floors
The figures are made in standard climate (23 ° C - 50% U.R.).
Material properties are thus a function of temperature of use and decrease with the increase of this.
Continuous temperatures of 100 °C reduced to 50% of the properties of the material.

As you can see from the graph the higher the molecular weight of polyethylene, the higher the impact resistance.
But with increasing molecular weight, tensile strength decreases.
