St. Isidore the Farmer Parish

From Fr. Frank

Which of the following would you find it most difficult to go without for six hours?

•Radio

•Cable TV

•Telephone

•A Digital Connection

It would seem, at least from observation, that a majority of people would find it most difficult to cope with the loss of their digital connection.

Without a digital connection, cell phones, smart phones, and computers ± whether they are tablets, notebooks, laptops, or desktops ± are just pieces of hardware, unable to connect to the internet and to the outside world.

No digital connection means no emails, no texting, no surfing the web, no cell phone service, no working apps, no online banking, no Google, no Amazon, no Facebook, no Skype, no YouTube, etc.

Being so digitally disconnected can make us feel agitated, uneasy, bored, vulnerable, and alone.

In this Sunday’s Gospel (Mark 7:3137), a man suffering from a severe lack of connection is brought to Jesus. The man is deaf. He cannot hear the verbal communication swirling around him. The man is also afflicted with a speech impediment. He is unable to verbally communicate what is on his mind and in his heart. He is disconnected and confined to his silent world.

Jesus feels compassion for the man. Using traditional rituals to convey his healing power, Jesus opens the man’s ears and frees his tongue.

But Jesus also does something more. Jesus opens the man’s ears so he can hear the Gospel, so he can hear Jesus’s proclamation that the kingdom of God is at hand! Jesus also frees the man’s tongue so he can proclaim his praise and thanks to God.

What Jesus did for the man in the Gospel, he has done for us as well. Jesus has opened our ears to hear the message of God

proclaimed in the scriptures and in the teaching and preaching of the Church. We can hear and understand what most of the world does not hear or appreciate.

Jesus has touched our lips, so that like him, we can address the Holy One, the Almighty One, as “Our Father who art in heaven….” and we can join our fellow Christians in giving praise and thanks to God in the liturgy. Jesus has also loosened our tongues so that we can tell others about the loving and caring things God has done and

continues to do for us.

Jesus, who connected the deaf man to the society around him, has opened us to the most vital connection of all, a connection to God.

That is the one connection we truly cannot do without!

PSR & Youth Ministry Notes & News

Memorial Service for Aborted Children

On Saturday, September 18, Pro-life Americans throughout the coun- try will gather at gravesites and memorial sites dedicated to honor aborted babies for the ninth annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children. Prayer services at these sites will commemo- rate the more than 62 million children who have lost their lives to legal abortion since 1973, and to remind our society of the humanity of the unborn child.

Please join in the memorial service at the Teutopolis KC Memorial to the Unborn in front of the Seminary Tower on Saturday, September 18 at 8:30 AM. Bring your own chair if desired. If raining, we will pray under the north canopy of the Banquet Hall.

Together let us remember the victims of abortion and pray for a final end to this injustice in our land.

CALLING ALL MEN²SONRISE FOR MEN

SonRise for Men meets each Friday in

the St. Anthony Parish Center. The first session will be held September 10.

This is the 10th year and God has blessed us throughout these years with many different programs, and with many men attending from churches around our area. At one time, we had men from 7 different parishes.

This year, we’re happy to be able to use a new free series from TMIY, “That Man is You,” called All Things New. It features many inspiring and impressive Catholic speakers.

All men who want to grow in their spiritual life and become better husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons are invited to attend. It’s a fan- tastic way to start a day.

Coffee is on at 6AM, breakfast at 6:10, prayer and video presentation begin at 6:30. At 7AM, we break up into small groups to discuss the message from the video. We conclude promptly at 7:30AM.

Register online at TMIY.org or call St. Anthony Parish Office at 2173477129.

We are now threefourths of the way through the year of St. Joseph as designated by Pope Francis on December 8, 2020. The final leg of the journey is upon us as we have nearly completed nine months of this year. Opportunities to get to know the person of St. Joseph, to build a relationship with your spiritual Father, to become more comfortable imploring his intercession and to receive special indul- gences during this year ending on December 8, 2021 are still availa- ble during the final three months.

A small group of parishioners will be starting its journey on Thurs- day, September 9th toward Consecration to St. Joseph. All are wel- come to embark on this journey with the group. The book entitled Consecration to St. Joseph by Donald Calloway, MIC will provide the direction for the journey. Books are available in our parish li- brary located in the annex and vestibule of St. Aloysius and St. Jo- seph churches, respectively. The group will meet in the annex at St.

Aloysius for 6 consecutive Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. beginning on Sep- tember 9, 2021 with Consecration on Thursday, October 14, 2021.

For additional information or answers to questions, please contact Sandy Meinhart at sameinhart@gmail.com or 2172731758.

Blessing for the Fallen of 9-11

God of mercy,

in your word of Scripture, you instruct us to

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Give us today the courage to assist those around us

who may need our assistance.

Give us patience when we become impatient.

Remind us to pray for all those who perished on United Airlines 93, American Airlines 11, United Airlines 175, American Airlines 77,

and those in the Twin Towers and Pentagon.

Give us a heart

thankful for those who gave their lives

as first responders, as did the men and women

who ran into danger to be of aid.

We ask all this in the name of the One

who first responded to our need for a savior,

Jesus the Christ.

Amen.
