Charge to SVTRAD 1.5 Review Committee
The BABAR SVT group has recently updated its plans for radiation protection, based on four years of operational experience, and has now begun the design and prototyping work necessary to implement this plan. The updated plan includes upgrades of both the
radiation sensors and their readout electronics. New sensors cannot be installed until the summer of 2005, while electronics can be upgraded immediately.
We would like the review committee to address the following questions specific to the electronics upgrade (SVTRAD 1.5), within the broader context of the whole upgrade plan:
1. Does the proposed baseline upgrade meet the requirements? Is it compatible with future sensor upgrades?
2. Is the proposed baseline upgrade technically feasible? Have areas of technical risk been adequately identified and anticipated?
3. Is the proposed baseline upgrade the optimal strategy to protect the SVT from radiation damage while simultaneously optimizing the rate of useful physics date recorded over the lifetime of the experiment?
4. Are the schedule, budget, and manpower estimates for the proposed baseline design upgrade realistic?
5. Does the benefit of the proposed upgrade justify the required resources?
The committee should report their findings to the SVT System Managers
