Il 16 dicembre del 2012 a Pergine Valsugana è stato conferito il titolo di Città. Una cerimonia intensa, ospitata a Palazzo Tomelin, attuale sede della Cassa Rurale Alta Valsugana. Palazzo Tomelin è uno degli edifici storici della città: nell’agosto del 1866 ospitò il quartier generale del Generale Medici nella terza Guerra d’indipendenza.
È una delle tante pagine di storia che raccontano l’importanza di un territorio da sempre crocevia di popoli e di culture. Adagiata sulla riva sinistra del torrente Fersina, la città di Pergine ne ha condiviso il destino nella buona e nella cattiva sorte. Delicata sorgente, che nasce nel cuore del Massiccio del Lagorai, nel corso dei secoli il suo correre a valle è stato motore inesauribile di energia per i numerosi opifici alimentati dalla sua corrente, ma anche foriero di devastanti alluvioni. Un’alternanza di fortune che ha forgiato il carattere dei suoi abitanti, pronti a fare fronte a ogni evenienza, con uno spiccato estro artistico che li rende fiduciosi nel domani.
Un’apertura di pensiero che si è arricchita dall’avere ospitato, senza remore, l’allora più grande Ospedale Psichiatrico del Tirolo e in tempi più recenti la Comunità di recupero di San Patrignano. Una dimensione di accoglienza e ricerca che continua con l’Ospedale Villa Rosa, centro d’avanguardia nazionale nella cura delle malattie neuromuscolari.
Pergine Valsugana
On 16th December 2012 Pergine Valsugana was conferred the title of City with a grand ceremony held in Palazzo Tomelin which is cur- rently the headquarters of the Cassa Rurale Alta Valsugana. Palaz- zo Tomelin is one of the city’s most historic buildings renowned for having been General Medici’s headquarters during the Third War of Independence in August 1866.
This is just one of the many chapters of history that recount the significance of this territory in the past, having always been a busy crossroads of peoples and cultures. Situated on the left bank of the Fersina, a torrent with which Pergine has always shared its fate, both in good times and bad. The source of the Fersina torrent is a small spring that originates right up in the heart of the Lagorai Massif which over the centuries has always been an unlimited source of energy for the numerous factories located along its course, while also being a harbinger of some devastating floods. This alternation of good and bad fortune has forged the character of its inhabitants who are always ready to face anything, with a marked artistic flair for life giving them faith in the future.
An open-mindedness that has been enriched by having hosted, without hesitation, the once largest psychiatric hospital in Tyrol and, more recently, the San Patrignano rehabilitation centre. A real sense of hospitality and research that continues even today with the Vil- la Rosa Hospital, a national avant-garde centre for the treatment of neuromuscular diseases.
Una città a misura d’uomo
Pergine Valsugana riveste oggi una rilevante importanza socio economica come capoluogo di vallata. Una città, di 23mila abitanti, che è polo di attrazione per servizi e per la sua vivibilità. Distante solo dieci chilometri dalla città capoluogo, Trento, è punto di riferimento per diversi settori, ma anche antesignana in numerose iniziative. Basti pensare agli spettacoli culturali che, a partire dagli anni settanta, ne hanno fatto l’arena estiva per eccellenza di tutta la Provincia, e poi l’associazionismo, con l’operazione popolare che ha permesso al Castello, risalente al Medioevo, di diventare un bene collettivo.
Sono solo alcuni dei fatti che hanno coagulato attorno alla città l’intero territorio dell’Alta Valsugana. Paesi, vallate e montagne, impreziosite da laghi e vecchie carrarecce che raccontano la storia di un popolo che ha sempre guardato avanti senza fermarsi.
A liveable city
Nowadays, Pergine Valsugana is of undeniably of great socio- economic importance being the capital of the valley. It’s a small city of 23,000 inhabitants and is a focal point of attraction for its services and liveability. Situated only 10 km away from the provincial capital, Trento, it has become a reference point for various sectors while also being a forerunner in many initiatives; for instance, we can just consider the offer of cultural shows, which since the 1970s have made it the summer arena par excellence for the entire province, and that of local associations which recently lead to a community action to buy the majestic Pergine Castle, which dates back to the Middle Ages, so it has now become a collective asset.
These are just some of the factors that have made it a true reference point for the entire Alta Valsugana; the area surrounding it, composed of villages, valleys and mountains, embellished by lakes and old cart roads that help tell the story of people that have always looked forward without looking back.
Una comunità attiva
162 associazioni, di cui 71 impegnate nella cultura e 56 nello sport, in sostanza quasi una ogni 130 abitanti. Sono i numeri dell’associa- zionismo a Pergine Valsugana. Un mondo effervescente e variegato che spazia dalla cultura, all’arte, alla salute, allo sport. Filoni che han- no un’unica matrice: vivere insieme la propria comunità.
Le occasioni per entrare in una dimensione ricreativa sono moltepli- ci e hanno radici profonde, con una linfa che continua a dare i suoi frutti. Lo scenario è ricco e offre a ognuno di appagare le attese. Un insieme che appassiona chi ama l’ambiente in cui vive. Una città che racconta storie importanti. Negli anni Settanta è nato Pergine Spettacolo Aperto, cartellone estivo di prima grandezza in Trenti- no che, ancor oggi, propone performance di livello e avanguardia.
Dall’alto del colle il castello ogni anno si arricchisce con mostre di artisti internazionali. In estate il centro si anima con rievocazioni sto- riche legate alle Feste medievali che narrano pagine reali del 1300.
È un territorio dove anche lo sport è protagonista in numerosi eventi.
C’è “Il Pulcino d’oro”, manifestazione internazionale dedicato al cal- cio giovanile. Nel mondo del running è irrinunciabile “La 30 Trenti- na”, gara che, nel mese di settembre, colora di fatica le rive dei due laghi. Il “Break Point Golf Club”, all’imbocco della città di Pergine, regala relax e tranquillità. E poi il dragon boat, antica imbarcazione cinese, che sul lago di Caldonazzo ha trovato la casa ideale. Un som- mario di occasioni uniche che rendono Pergine una città viva, per chi ama sentirsi vivo.
An active community
There are 162 local associations, of which 71 involved in culture and 56 in sport, in other words almost one for every 130 inhabitants;
this highlights the incredible abundance of associations in Pergine Valsugana that truly adds to its lively and varied offer with associ- ations ranging from culture to art, health and sport. We could say, individual strands of a single fabric knitted together by the desire to live together as one community.
The recreational opportunities are abundant too and are deeply rooted in the local culture and are continuously growing; overall, the local facilities and services are plentiful, offering everyone the oppor- tunity to fulfil their expectations with an ensemble of possibilities for those who truly love the area in which they live. For example, in the 1970s Pergine Spettacolo Aperto was born, one of the biggest summer festivals held in Trentino that, even today, offers avant-gar- de performances of the highest level. The medieval castle, situated on top of a nearby hill, is brought to life every year with numerous exhibitions by international artists. While in the summer, the city centre becomes alive with Medieval Festivals that re-enact historical events from the 14th Century. But is also an area where sport plays a primary role in numerous events. Namely, the “Il Pulcino d’oro”, an international event dedicated to youth football.
In the world of running, the “La 30 Trentina” is a must-do in Sep- tember, a race that takes place around the shores of the two lakes, Levcio and Caldonazzo. The very popular “Break Point Golf Club”, at Pergine, offers golf enthusiasts an atmosphere of relaxation and tran- quillity. And then there is the dragon boat discipline, an ancient Chi- nese sport, which has found its ideal natural setting on Caldonazzo lake. This is just a taste of the various unique opportunities that make Pergine such a animated town, for those who want to really feel alive.

Un territorio di qualità
Il contesto pesaggistico è un valore aggiunto per Pergine Valsugana. Il gruppo montuoso del Lagorai è uno degli ultimi massicci alpini rimasti intatti, un ambiente incontaminato, dove l’uomo vive rispettando i cicli della natura. Dalle cime i ruscelli giungono a valle alimentati dai numerosi specchi d’acqua incastonati nella catena montuosa.
Sono acque arsenicali-ferruginose, note da secoli e utilizzate dalle Terme di Levico con effetti benefi ci particolarmente apprezzati sin dal periodo asburgico. Un contesto dove si può leggere anche la storia della Valle dei Mòcheni, la “Valle incantata” – come la defi nì lo scrittore Robert Musil – isola germanofona che coniuga lo scenario naturale tra prati e boschi con gli itinerari che accompagnano l’escursionista su tutte le vette del Lagorai. Un patrimonio naturale che si armonizza con la vocazione turistica degli Altopiani della Vigolana da una parte e di Pinè dall’altra con i laghi di Serraia e delle Piazze.
La “Bandiera Blu” è il riconoscimento ambientale che possono vantare anche i vicini laghi di Levico Terme e di Caldonazzo, dove l’acqua è ancora protagonista con le spiagge libere e gli stabilimenti balneari attrezzati che hanno consentito al lago di Caldonazzo di divenire sede del Centro Nautico Universitario gestito dal CUS. Tanti motivi per vivere in modo unico sport e natura.
A territory of quality
The surrounding landscape defi nitely gives that added value to Pergine Valsugana. The adjacent Lagorai mountain range is one of the last remaining intact Alpine massifs and is an uncontaminated environment where man still lives in harmony with the cycles of na- ture. From the high peaks streams fl ow down to the valley, also fed by the numerous bodies of water embedded in the mountain rock;
the water is arsenical-ferruginous with special properties, some- thing known for centuries, and is used by the Levico SPA because of its benefi cial effects that have been particularly valued ever since the Hapsburg period.
A natural context in which one can also learn about the history of the Valle dei Mòcheni, or the “enchanted valley”, as the writer Robert Musil defi ned it ̶a German-speaking pocket that combines the nat- ural scenery of meadows and woodlands with the mountain paths that lead hikers to all the peaks of the Lagorai range. Indeed, a natu- ral treasure that complements the tourists’ passion for the outdoors with the Vigolana Plateau on one side and Piné on the other, with the Serraia and Piazze lakes. Furthermore, the nearby lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo can proudly boast having a “Blue Flag”, an environ- mental acknowledgement for the quality of their waters.
For sure, the lakes play a major role in the general appeal of the area and have many free beaches and equipped bathing establishments that in turn have allowed Caldonazzo Lake to become the location for the University Nautical Centre, managed by CUS. There are limit- less ways to enjoy sports of all kinds in this natural setting.

I collegamenti con l’Università
Pergine Valsugana è il capoluogo dell’Alta Valsugana. Dista 10 chilo- metri dalla città di Trento e si trova allo sbocco della strada statale n. 47 della Valsugana in prossimità della confluenza con la Valle del Fersina. Spostarsi è “comodo”, ma anche economico. Le linee di tra- sporto sono tutte efficienti e garantiscono diverse opportunità.
Il treno è il mezzo pubblico più agevole e conveniente, assicurando contatti frequenti e quotidiani in tempi ragionevoli. La linea ferrovia- ria è la Bassano-Trento e, in particolare, la tratta Pergine-Povo-Trento in soli 10 km permette un raccordo costante con la città capoluogo.
La stazione ferroviaria di Pergine, è attestata presso il Centro intermo- dale e dista circa 9 minuti a piedi da MUV Lagorai. Per raggiungere la fermata di Povo, in corrispondenza del Polo Scientifico e Tecnologico dell’Università degli Studi di Trento, bastano solo 10 minuti, mentre in 25 minuti si arriva alla stazione del capoluogo.
Partendo dal centro intermodale i collegamenti con Trento sono pos- sibili, anche tramite il servizio dei pullman di linea, che prevede fer- mate a Ponte Alto e Povo-Mesiano, con tempi di percorrenza di 18/23 minuti. Un servizio di linea che, nelle ore di punta, offre una frequen- za che varia da 12 a 30 minuti.
Infine la pista ciclabile tra Pergine, Ponte Alto e Trento può essere considerata già una realtà (fine cantiere nel 2023) e si innesterà nella ciclabile già esistente. E’ una ciclovia che lambisce il torrente Fersina, il lago di Caldonazzo, quello di Levico e quindi il Brenta. Lungo il Sile si spinge poi sino alla laguna veneziana.
Links to the University
Pergine Valsugana has 23,000 inhabitants and is the capital of Alta Valsugana. It is just 10 km from the city of Trento and is located at the opening to the Valsugana state road 47 near the junction with the Valle del Fersina. Travelling by public transport is not only easy but also convenient. The public transport routes are all efficient and guarantee various connections.
However, the train is probably the easiest and most convenient pub- lic means of transport and ensures frequent and daily connections with reasonable times. The adjacent railway line is the Bassano-Tren- to and, in particular, the 10 km stretch through Pergine-Povo-Trento ensures a reliable link to Trento city. The railway station of Pergine is located at the Intermodal Centre, which is about a 9-minute walk from MUV Lagorai; it takes about 10 minutes to get to Povo station, where the University of Trento’s Science and Technology Centre is located, and 25 minutes to get to the main station of Trento.
However, it is also possible to reach Trento from the Intermodal Cen- tre by bus, with stops at Ponte Alto and Povo-Mesiano, which takes about 18/23 minutes. The frequency of the bus service, that varies during peak hours, is from about 12 to 30 minutes.
Finally, the bicycle path between Pergine, Ponte Alto and Trento can be considered ready very shorty, given that its completion is sched- uled for 2023, and it will join the already existing bicycle path that runs along the Adige River on one side and Caldonazzo, Levico Lake and the Brenta river on the other, and then will join the one along the Sile River which ends at the Venetian lagoon.

2026. Le Olimpiadi invernali
L’altopiano di Piné – a soli 12 km da Pergine – sarà tra i grandi pro- tagonisti delle prossime Olimpiadi invernali Milano-Cortina del 2026. Nello stadio del ghiaccio “Ice Rink” di Baselga di Piné sono previste le gare di pattinaggio che, con le sfide sulle piste per lo sci da fondo al Lago di Tesero e le competizioni sul trampolino del salto a Predazzo, coinvolgeranno il Trentino in questa prestigiosa avventura sportiva.
MUV Lagorai verrà inaugurato proprio nel 2026 in occasione delle Olimpiadi e ospiterà gli atleti e gli accompagnatori degli staff tecni- ci delle squadre. Grazie ai finanziamenti speciali destinati ai Giochi Olimpici verranno implementati i servizi dei treni elettrici della linea della Valsugana (Trento-Venezia) e sarà potenziata la rete stradale anche attraverso il sistema “Bus Rapid Transit”. Una serie di inter- venti che contribuiranno a decongestionare il traffico sulla viabili- tà esistente, con riduzione dei tempi di percorrenza, grazie a corsie preferenziali e a un ulteriore sviluppo della mobilità sostenibile.
2026. The Winter Olympics
The Piné plateau, just 12 km from Pergine, will be one of the venues of the next Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. The “Ice Rink” ice sta- dium in Baselga di Piné will host the skating competitions, which, together with the cross-country skiing tracks at Lago di Tesero and the ski jumping in Predazzo, will involve Trentino directly in this pres- tigious sporting adventure.
So, MUV Lagorai will be inaugurated in 2026 on occasion of the Olympics and will host the athletes and accompanying technical staff of the teams. Thanks to the special funding allocated to the Olympic Games, the services of the electric trains on the Valsuga- na line (Trento-Venice) will be implemented and the mobility on the linking road network will be strengthened with a “Bus Rapid Transit”
system. Plus, there will be a series of interventions aimed at reduc- ing traffic on the existing road network, creating a reduction in trav- el time, along with preferential lanes and further developments for sustainable mobility.

MUV Lagorai nasce da un’operazione di rigenerazione urbana di un’area dismessa, nella qua- le si prevede la realizzazione di un articolato complesso residenziale e relativi servizi per stu- denti, che comprende, oltre agli edifici, un parco urbano, attrezzature sportive e per fitness, spazi comuni, percorsi pubblici e una piazza.
La funzione abitativa è inserita in una serie di costruzioni realizzate in bioedilizia, dotate di spazi e servizi di supporto in grado di soddisfare le esigenze di una moderna e qualificata re- sidenzialità studentesca. Gli alloggi, pensati per ospitare quattro studenti, sono composti di quattro stanze, dotate di balcone, di una cucina completamente attrezzata, di disimpegno, ingresso e doppi servizi. Nello stesso edificio trovano posto locali di uso comune come lavan- derie e depositi, oppure riservati allo studio e allo svago, alla TV e alla musica, ecc.
All’interno del complesso sono presenti diversi ambienti per attività collettive, per gli incon- tri e la didattica, la biblioteca, palestre per l’attività sportiva e il fitness, un bar, alcuni negozi, spazi di parcheggio al coperto per autoveicoli e motocicli e stalli per biciclette con possibilità di ricarica a favore di una mobilità elettrica. Al centro dell’area è collocato un grande parco a valenza urbana e una piazza collegata agli altri spazi pubblici del quartiere.
MUV Lagorai is the outcome of an urban redevelopment plan of an area currently in disuse, which foresees the construction of a residential complex for university students, including numerous green areas, an urban park, public paths and even a square.
The residential function is included in a series of green buildings, fully equipped with spaces and support services to meet the needs of a modern authorised student residence. The individual accommodation units, each designed to accommodate four students, consists of four rooms with balconies, a fully equipped kitchen, a hallway, an entrance hall and two bathrooms. In the same building there are rooms for common use, such as laundry and storage rooms, or utilised for study of recreation, TV and music, etc.
Inside the complex there also are various rooms for collective activities, like meetings and
teaching, as well as a library, gyms for sports and fitness activities, a bar, some shops, garages
for cars and motorbikes, and also bicycle parking spaces, equipped with recharging stations
as to favour electric mobility. In the centre of the area there is a large urban park and a square
connected to other public spaces in the neighbourhood.

MUV Lagorai sarà dotato delle tecnologie più recenti sia per la gestione dei fabbisogni energetici – coperti in maggioranza da fonti rinnovabili – sia per il controllo e la vigilanza, attiva nell’arco di tutta la giornata, sia per le connessioni alle reti Wi-Fi in fibra. Nelle vicinanze – con distanze percorribili a piedi e in pochi minuti – si trovano numerose attività commerciali, servizi e spazi culturali, campi per attività sportive o palestre, locali di ristoro, compreso un ristorante self interaziendale aperto nei giorni lavorativi.
Completano l’offerta le varie opportunità e i servizi avanzati che una cittadina come Pergine Valsugana e il suo territorio più immediato possono offrire. I tempi di costruzione previsti sono contenuti in tre anni, con ultimazione del complesso entro la fine del 2025 a fronte di un importo di spesa che preventivamente è stimato in 45 milioni di euro.
MUV Lagorai will be equipped with the latest technology for man- aging its energy needs, mostly covered by renewable energy sourc- es, for its supervision and surveillance which will be active through- out the day, and for its connection to Wi-Fi fibre networks. In the vicinity of the complex, just a few minutes away on foot, there are numerous shops, services and cultural spaces, sports facilities and gyms, restaurants, including a self-service restaurant (open only on working days).
The general proposal is complete with the various prospects and innovative services that a city like Pergine Valsugana and the sur- roundings area can offer. Construction time is expected to be limited to three years, with completion of the complex foreseen by the end of 2025, for a total estimated cost of €45 million.

Artefi ce del progetto, la Fondazione è un Ente del Terzo Settore e nasce dalla volontà dei due soci Fondatori – Cassa Rurale Alta Valsugana BCC e Consorzio Formazione Cultura Servizi Soc. Coop.
(società del gruppo Consorzio Lavoro e Ambiente) – di condividere con il ter- ritorio iniziative e progetti tangibili nei settori caratteristici del Terzo Settore:
dalla cultura al sociale, dall’assistenza alle persone con disabilità alla tutela dell’ambiente, dalla gestione dei servizi sanitari a quella di strutture residenziali universitarie, ecc.
In questo contesto si inserisce il proget- to MUV Lagorai (Mountain University Village Lagorai), nato, per l’appunto, con il proposito di contribuire al miglio- ramento dell’offerta di servizi residen- ziali universitari in Trentino, attraverso la realizzazione di un moderno campus universitario, in grado di ospitare, nel massimo comfort, studenti e docenti fuori-sede, non solo italiani, e di soddi- sfarne le esigenze anche sul piano spor- tivo, ricreativo, culturale e relazionale.
La realizzazione avverrà nel rispetto dei principi e della mission del Piano Nazio- nale di Ripresa e Resilienza (tra questi, in primis, la digitalizzazione, la sosteni- bilità ambientale, l’inclusività e la coe- sione), e nell’ottica della promozione dei valori cooperativi, da sempre condi- visi e concretamente praticati dagli Enti fondatori.
The foundation, which is the master- mind of the project, is a third sector body that was born from the joint will- ingness of the two founding members – Cassa Rurale Alta Valsugana BCC and Consorzio Formazione Cultura Servizi Soc. Coop. (a company that’s part of the Consorzio Lavoro e Ambiente group) – to open up the territory to tangible initiatives and projects related directly to the third sector; namely cultural and social work, from assistance to peo- ple with disabilities to environmental protection, from the management of health services to that of university resi- dential facilities, to name a few.
The MUV Lagorai, or the Mountain University Village Lagorai, project is an integrate part of this framework. It was conceived with the aim of contrib- uting to the development of university residential services in Trentino, through the construction of a modern university campus which is able to host any out- of-town or foreign students and profes- sors in utmost comfort while also meet- ing their daily needs in terms of sports, recreation, culture and social relations.
It will be built in accordance with the values and mission of the Italian Na- tional Recovery and Resilience Plan including, fi rst and foremost, aspects such as digitalisation, environmental sustainability, inclusiveness and cohe- sion, along with a long-sighted vision of promoting the cooperative values that have always been shared and practised by the founding institutions.
