WORLD WEEKLY BRIEF:
THE HDA AUTOPILOT – WHAT IS KNOWN SO FAR The Autopilot, a technology presented two weeks ago by Politecnico di Milano, appears to be an almost revolutionary development in the chemical and process industry, by adopting the latest automation technologies from other industries and adapting them to chemical plants.
Unfortunately, very little is known about the details of the technology itself and its implementation. The news reached the headlines of many mainstream newspaper and media, but due to the lack of details and information, the discussion was polarized among worried investors, technology enthusiasts, and concerned critics.
This was further exacerbated by the NDAs that the process engineers and technicians were required to sign.
Despite the representatives of Politecnico being so tight- lipped, in the next issues we will explore in more detail the possible scenarios and automa- tion solutions developed and implemented by Politecnico, including the impact on the job of the engineers and the technicians in charge of each chemical plant.

AUTOPILOT PRODUCTION TO START THIS WEEK, ACCORDING TO POLITECNICO
Among concerns from investors and critics, Politecnico is determined to start running the Autopilot this week. “This solution has been presented only very recently but it has been in the works for a long time, and has been widely tested”, a representative declared.
The representative refused to share more details about the technology, saying that more information will be given at a later date.
“However” – he added – “we are confident in the reliability of the solution and we believe that the performance of the plants will attest that.”
