A FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF THE CONDUCTION OF THE HDA PLANTS – PART 3 We conclude our financial analysis of the HDA plants by performing an analysis of the cash flows in the weeks of operation so far.
We estimated the following weekly cash flows, for a plant operating without interrup- tions, assuming that the stream of diphenyl is sold:
Cash flow Week 3 +25140 € Week 4 -89382 € Week 5 +14630 € Week 6 -79024 € Week 7 +73412 € The plant can also run burning the diphenyl stream, if the engineers deem it convenient.
Furthermore, the plant does not always operate for the whole week, e.g. due to scheduled technical checks or potential production issues, such as the one with the compressor.
The teams of engineers must therefore take into account these factors to estimate the actual cash flows, including a startup cost of 2000 €. Since they can’t know the real prices of commodities in advance, they have to rely on forecasts – or make their own.

POLITECNICO ANNOUNCES A NEW AUTOPILOT TECHNOLOGY.
IS IT A BREAKTHROUGH?
With an announcement that took by surprise the entire audience at the Politecnico Gala dinner which was held last Monday, Politecnico introduced a new automation development, dubbed “Autopilot”.
Developed in strict confidentiality by a team of automation and software engineers, surprisingly little information has leaked so far.
This week, the process engineers will be able to test the new technology, whereas next week the actual Autopilot will start and will run for 9 weeks. We will follow carefully the developments, and keep you updated in the next issues.
