Year/semester 2/I Semester
Course title Marine Numerical Hydrodynamics
ID Course Code 66174
Course Credit (CFU) 6
Scientific-Disciplinary Sector ING-IND/01 Naval Architecture
Course Type Lectures + Practical applications on PC’s
Professor Stefano Gaggero – Diego Villa
Education objectives Provide basic knowledge of Fluid Mechanics Equations. Provide basic knowledge of simplified approaches to solve fluid problems (potential flow theories, boundary layers, RANS) and relative numerical approximations (boundary element approaches, finite differences, finite volumes) to achieve numerical solutions. Introduce some fluid dynamic problems connected with the Naval Architecture (hull resistance, design of appendages and propellers, cavitation) and define an appropriate strategy of (numerical) solution.
Learning outcomes Have an overview on the main hydrodynamic problems in the Naval Architecture fields. Have and overview of the hypotheses and the application limitations of a series of well- established numerical approaches adopted for the solution of such problems and be able to critically analyze and define an appropriate solution strategy.
