From the Desk of Father Chris ….“Jesus said to them, ‘Children, have you caught anything to eat?’ They answered him, ‘No.’ So he said to them, ‘Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.’ So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord.’”(Jn. 21:47a)
This weekend we celebrate the 3rdSunday of Easter and the 1stday of May! Around the parish grounds we’re starting to see the trees in bloom as well as a plethora of flowers. The new life of Easter is beginning to reflect inside and outside the Church.
On Monday of this past week, we celebrated Confirmation with Bishop Martin Amos. Everything went splendidly for the approximately 50 Confirmandi and their families. Bishop Amos reminded them and all of us that we continue to work on building up the temple of the Holy Spirit in our hearts through our fervent practice of the Gospel.
This coming Saturday we’ll be celebrating First Holy Communion with our second graders. We’re very excited for them and their families as they prepare to celebrate this Sacrament for the first time. May their zeal for receiving Eucharist for the first time be a beautiful example for all of us. Please keep all our Confirmandi and First Communicants in prayer.
Speaking of celebrating the Sacraments, we’ll once again have an opportunity for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick available after the 7pm Mass on Wednesday (1stWednesday of the month). You’re invited to pray with us at Mass and celebrate the Sacrament after the final procession. Also, because of popular demand, I’ve extended our Saturday Reconciliation time perpetually from 2:30pm3:30pm. As always, if you can’t make it on Saturday, you’re

Notes from Sister Noel …
In this month we have witnessed our youth involved at Church and that has been a wondrous experience for all of us as a parish community to witness and celebrate.
The Living Stations written by Sr. Denise at a previous parish and redesigned by her and Michael Picha to fit our church environment were witnessed by both school and PSR classes, parents, the family of the students as well as many parishioners who came to one of the two presentations in Holy Week.
The students who were in the Living Stations will carry the experience in their minds and hearts for a long time. We pray it provided insights into Christ’s passion, death and resurrection and its connection to their lives.
Physically entering into Jesus’ human experience is a significant way to come to know the historical Jesus who was both human and divine. Jesus showed us how to respond to those around us sharing in their sorrow (e.g. death of Lazarus), in joy (e.g.
welcoming children), pain (e.g. healing acts of Jesus), and in the unexpected (e.g. the wine predicament at the wedding feast).
We’ve also seen our younger children each week leave their pews to follow the catechist to their special time with the Sunday Scriptures. They return energized and often wanting to share all they did and learned. That’s what a disciple is called to do…
share the Good News. Amazing.
We’ve just celebrated a Confirmation Mass for our eighth graders who prepared with their sponsors and teachers to know more about the Holy Spirit and its gifts. These gifts will develop and grow within them, forming them anew. Having read the evaluations by parents, sponsors and themselves, I could see they were ready to take this next step in committing themselves to live out their faith within the Catholic community through prayer, sacraments and service.
Know that we who have witnessed these expressions of the faith of our younger parish members are called on to continue to create a community here at St.
Anselm that welcomes youth, young adults and families. Take time to engage with them. In this way they know they are seen and belong. Our Easter season is upon us. We have much to rejoice in!

On Wednesday, May 4 following the 7pm Mass, and continuing each month on the first Wednesday, Father Chris will anoint those who are in need of the sacrament.
The next meeting of the Parish BBQ/Picnic committee is Thursday, May 12 at 6 PM in the Hospitality Room. Please join in the planning of this event which is already shaping up to be a lot of fun for all ages and tastes. Speaking of tastes, just like Jesus, we need 12 disciples, but in our case, it is BBQ disciples we need to display their dazzling BBQ magic on Sunday, July 31. However, unlike Jesus, contestants will not be expected to feed the crowds. Contest forms are available in the vestibule of the church. The first 12 to turn in their completed forms are THE CHOSEN. Cornhole tournament forms are also available in the vestibule. Teams of 2 will vie for a $100 prize (after a $25 buyin) and priceless bragging rights. Please contact Jim Penny at jimpenny75@yahoo with any questions or brilliant ideas.

Happenings in the School
On Monday of this past week we returned from our Easter vacation to take part in a schoolwide shared reading event (sometimes referred to as
“one school…one book”). Every student received a copy of the same book ± The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Families are being asked to read the book together over the next few weeks. This is a unique program in that children from preschool through 8th grade will be listening to the same book. This title was specifically chosen because it can be followed and understood by younger students, but will still captivate and interest the older students. This is a terrific way to wind down our school year because “when a whole school reads the same book, there is a lot to talk about”.
RCIA News
The Easter Season is one of celebration and joy. As an RCIA community, we used the 40 days of Lent as an opportunity for prayer, Scripture, penance and deepening our relationship with God. The journey of Lent and Easter is God’s offer of a new beginning. The RCIA Journey takes us
deeply into a Lent of discovering the God of love who not only invites this renewal but promises to journey with us. His steps culminate in the way of the cross as do ours. But again God says to us that the cross is not an ending but the door to salvation which he offers us each year or rather each day hence. So, Jesus comes down from the cross reminding us that we may fail again and again and again, but that the love story of divine mercy is always awaiting us. So, on the Sunday following the resurrection we celebrate again that incomprehensible love within the solemnity of Divine Mercy Sunday. We continue this celebration during the entire 50 days of Easter, a celebration of what God is doing for and within and among us.
For our neophytes, just received into the Church, this period is the final period of the RCIA process called Mystagogy. It is the time to reflect on the mystery of the new life each has entered, a new life of grace and service. It is a time to immerse ourselves in the blessings of the baptismal waters and seal our journey forever with the sign of the cross received in the holy oils of confirmation.
And so we pray: Merciful God, hold us close to your heart that we may ever live in your love.
Amen.
Sr. Mary Ellen
