In questa edizione della nostra informazione pastorale vi presento le nostre comunità in Australia e in Canada.
Queste sono tra le missioni e parrocchie che abbiamo aperto recentemente.
COMUNITÀ VOCAZIONISTA IN MAITLAND-NEWCASTLE, AUSTRALIA St Patrick Church Wallsend
La chiesa di St. Patrick Wallsend è stata costruita nel 1876 a Macquarie Street. La chiesa fu utilizzata anche come scuola per bambini bisognosi di istruzione, per lo più gestita da laici. Nel 1883, le Suore della Misericordia residenti a Lambton vennero e presero la direzione della scuola.
Nel 1930 la vecchia chiesa fu demolita e su di essa fu costruito un convento per le suore.
Successivamente fu acquistato un nuovo sito di fronte alla strada e fu costruita una nuova scuola benedetta dal vescovo Murray.
Mentre tutto era ancora in costruzione P.
James Flynn, il parroco, si adoperò perché i lavori terminassero nel breve tempo possibile. Così il nuovo edificio della chiesa fu terminato e ufficialmente inaugurato nel 1931. St. Patrick Wallsend fu poi eretta parrocchia nel 1937 e resa indipendente dalla Parrocchia Lambton. A questo punto i sacerdoti se ne andarono in un appartamento in affitto fino a quando

nel 1948 fu costruito il Presbiterio a Wallsend e lì vi presero dimora. Molti altri sacerdoti hanno lavorato nella parrocchia di Wallsend.
Nel 2005 la parrocchia di St Patrick Wallsend e la parrocchia di Nostra Signora della Vittoria di Shortland sono state unite in un'unica parrocchia, ora conosciuta come Parrocchia di Wallsend- Shortland.
In precedenza, P. Roly Smyth, tornato dall'esercito, assunse il compito di fondare una parrocchia intorno a Shortland e Birmingham; costruì un convento per le suore nel 1956 e un nuovo Presbiterio in Shortland nel 1957, con il sostegno dei parrocchiani e della sua famiglia, e di riedificare la chiesa a Shortland, Nostra Signora della Vittoria nel 1964, per darle una nuova dignità. P. Smyth morì in seguito nel 1997 e fu sepolto nella chiesa di Shortland da lui costruita.
P. Tony Brady divenne il primo parroco della parrocchia di Wallsend-Shortland con padre Dom Carrigan CSsR (Congregazione del SS. Rosario) come suo associato e cappellano dell'Università di Newcastle. Tra gli altri sacerdoti, che hanno lavorato pastoralmente con P. Brady, ricordiamo P. James Odoh e P. Camilus Nwahia.
Al momento del pensionamento di P. Brady, nel dicembre 2019, il vescovo Bill ha affidato la direzione della parrocchia di Wallsend- Shortland ai Vocazionisti. L’1 gennaio 2020 P. Christian Onukwugha è stato nominato parroco mentre P. Collins Nwokeocha e P. Christogonus Okoro sono stati nominati come vicari parrocchiali.
L’insediamento del parroco fu fatto nel corso della S. Messa presieduta da Mons. Bill, vescovo della diocesi di Maitland- Newcastle presso la chiesa di Santa Croce di Glendale, il 26 gennaio 2020. Alla cerimonia era presenti P. Andew Doohan, vicario generale della diocesi e P. Armando Palmieri Economo Generale dei Vocazionisti.
Sugarloaf Parish
La fondazione della Chiesa di Wallsend del 1876 avvenne da parte di P. James Regan, sacerdote incaricato della chiesa di Lambton dal 1873 al 1877. Il 7 agosto 1904, la chiesa a West Wallsend
"Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio" fu completata, benedetta da Mons. Murray.
Il distretto parrocchiale di West Wallsend-Glendale fu stato fondato nel al 1955, con il completamento della parrocchia Holy Cross, benedetta e aperta con P. John Lavery sacerdote incaricato.
Il distretto parrocchiale di Glendale fu istituito nel 1960 con la benedizione e l'apertura della chiesa di San Benedetto e la scuola di Edgeworth; P. Bernard Kennedy fu il primo parroco a West Wallsend.
Nel 1988, la West Wallsend Church e la Glendale Church furono unite; a P. Brain Bailey fu dato l’inacarico pastorale di parroco.
Compleanno di P. Christian, Superiore della missione vocazionista in Australia
Oggi la Parrocchia di Sugarloaf risulta essere, quindi, l’unione pastorale delle parrocchie di West Wallsend e Glendale. Nel 2000 è diventata nuova area parrocchiale, con P Peter Rees nominato parroco, e adesso il parroco è il nostro confratello
P. Christian Onukwugha.
All'interno di questa nuova area parrocchiale, abbiamo la chiesa Holy Cross di Glendale, Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio di West Wallsend, la chiesa di San Benedetto e la scuola di Edgeworth,
St. Nicholas OOSH Glendale, Goodstart Early Learning Glendale.
COMUNITÀ VOCAZIONISTA, ARCIDIOCESI DI GROUARD-MCLENNAN, CANADA Come è avvenuto in tutto il mondo anche nell'arcidiocesi di Grouard-McLennan, nei mesi di aprile e maggio 2000, le chiese sono rimaste chiuse a causa della pandemia che ha, momentaneamente, cambiato la vita tradizionale della Chiesa. I fedeli sono stati dispensati dall'obbligo del culto domenicale. La comunione spirituale non è stata considerata più un'eccezione ma, piuttosto, è diventata una norma.
I social media hanno sostituito le chiese. La domenica delle Palme, i rami di palma sono stati benedetti perché le persone le raccogliessero privatamente. Si poteva sentire spiritualmente una chiesa piena ma i banchi erano fisicamente vuoti. Le celebrazioni della Settimana Santa esprimono il senso della vita cristiana, della vita che risorge in Cristo che pe noi ha vinto la morte.
Così alla fine del mese di maggio, arriva l'alba di una nuova speranza: le chiese riaprono. La maggior parte delle parrocchie hanno provveduto, rapidamente, nel trovare i volontari per la sicurezza e il controllo del rispetto dei protocolli sanitari, come stabilito dal governo dello stato di Alberta e dei vescovi cattolici delle diocesi.
Le nostre parrocchie Vocazioniste di Grouard, McLennan e Girouxville sono state tra le prime a trovare i volontari necessari e hanno potuto riaprire immediatamente.
Grouard
A Grouard P. Bernard Akum sta lavorando con vero spirito pastorale per rivitalizzare la vita spirituale dei fedeli. Un nuovo Consiglio Pastorale inaugurato dall'Arcivescovo Gerard Pettipas, C.Ss.R, lo sta collaborando attivamente.
Le loro attività pastorali includono attualmente: preghiera del mattino (ore 8.00); la messa mattutina (ore 9.00); la messa serale (ore 19.00); il mercoledì, la visita agli ammalati; il giovedì l’adorazione e benedizione eucaristica; il lunedì (e il primo venerdì del mese) l'esposizione per l’intera giornata del Santissimo Sacramento; il mercoledì e il giovedì la catechesi nella scuola: le Messe domenicali: St Bernard Grouard (ore 10.30); Pea Vine Church (ore 13.00); Gift Lake Church (ore 15.00); Atikameg Church (ore 16.00).

McLennan
A McLennan il parroco attualmente è P. Eucharius Ndjefemiti. Il suo servizio pastorale include le parrocchie di McLennan e Guy. Alcune delle attività pastorali sono: Messa mattutina (ore 9), preceduta dalla preghiera del mattino; Rosario e adorazione eucaristica (ore 16.00), tranne il mercoledì perché celebrò la Messa presso la casa per anziani in Manoir de Lac (ore 16:00). Le Messe domenicali sono così distribuite: Guy Parish (ore 9.00); McLennan Parish (ore 10.30). le altre attività pastorali sono: studio biblico, assistenza spirituale alla Catholic Women League, Knights of Columbus, Ecole Providence, la riunione mensile del Consiglio Pastorale Parrocchiale, Riunione del Consiglio per gli Affari Economici ogni tre mesi, il ministero della riconciliazione prima della messa o su richiesta gli altri giorni.
Girouxville
La parrocchia di Notre Dame de Lourdes, a Girouxville, è una parrocchia collaborata da molti volontari attivi, come avviene per la maggior parte delle parrocchie dell'Arcidiocesi. P. Christian Ogbonna è il parroco e lavora con vivo entusiasmo e spirito pastorale. È collaborato dal Consiglio Pastorale Parrocchiale, il Consiglio degli Affari Economici e altri comitati attivi che sono nelle parrocchie di Girouxville, Tangent e Eaglesham. Le attività pastorali sono quasi le stesse di quelle descritte per Grouard e McLennan.Nel 2020 l'annuale pellegrinaggio arcidiocesano presso il santuario di Notre Dame de Lourdes, Girouxville, è stato ufficialmente cancellato a causa del Covid-19. Tuttavia, l'Arcivescovo, il Vicario Generale e il Sacerdote incaricato della Formazione alla Fede erano presenti alla Festa dell'Assunzione della Beata Vergine Maria con le prime cento persone che si sono registrate per la Messa.
Nel libro Il Servo delle Divine Vocazioni P. Ludovico Caputo riporta che nella notte tra il 25 e il 26 luglio del 1930 Pianura fu fortemente scossa dal rombo di un terremoto, che provocò alcuni danni agli edifici parrocchiali e scosse tutta la popolazione del paese. Alcune persone chiesero a don Giustino se
avesse avuto paura durante il tremore. Sorridendo egli rispose: "Paura di cosa? Quando ho capito che il mio letto ballava, ho pregato: “Signore, fa che i miei parrocchiani approfittino di questa lezione”.
Anche se le nostre chiese sono state chiuse, e alcune persone hanno ancora paura di tornare in chiesa, comunque la pandemia ha qualcosa da insegnarci. Uniamoci al Beato don Giustino Russolillo per pregare: "Signore, fa che impariamo da questa lezione".

The vocationist mission and Parish in Maitland- Newcastle Diocese Australia
St. Patrick Church Wallsend
St Patrick Church Wallsend was built in 1876 at Macquarie Street, the Church was also used as a school for children in need of education mostly run by the lay people. In 1883, the Sisters of Mercy resident at Lambton came and took over the running of the school. In 1930 the old church was demolished and a Convent was built on it for the sisters in 1963.Because a Convent have been erected on that land, a new site was bought opposite the road and a new school was built on it in the year 1902 and was blessed by Bishop Murray when Fr James Flynn was the parish priest while all these were going on the new church building was being erected and was officially opened in 1931.St Patrick Wallsend was made a parish in 1937 independent of Lambton Parish. By this time the priests where leaving in a rented apartment but in 1948 the Presbytery at Wallsend was built. Many other priests worked in Wallsend parish. Historically in 2005 St Patrick parish Wallsend and Our Lady of Victory parish Shortland were amalgamated as one Parish now known as Wallsend-Shortland Parish.
Prior to that, Fr. Roly Smyth who returned from Military took the task of establishing a parish around Shortland and Birmingham. He built a Convent for the sisters in 1956, and a new Presbytery at Shortland in 1957 with support from parishioners and his family.
He was able to erect a befitting Church at Shortland- Our Lady of Victory Church in 1964.Fr Smyth later died in 1997 and was buried at Shortland Church he built.
Fr Tony Brady became the first Parish priest of Wallsend-Shortland Parish with Fr Dom Carrigan
CSsR as his associate as well as a Chaplain to Newcastle University. Other priests worked under Fr Brady at Wallsend-Shortland Parish like Fr James Odoh, Fr Camilus Nwahia.
At Fr Brady's retirement in December 2019,Bishop Bill gave the running of the Wallsend-Shortland parish to the Vocationist Fathers on the 1st of January 2020.Fr Christian Onukwugha Sdv was appointed the parish priest while Fr Collins Nwokeocha Sdv and Fr Christogonus Okoro,Sdv were appointed as his associates and the Installation of the parish priest was celebrated during a mass officiated by Bishop Bill the Bishop of Maitland-Newcastle Diocese at Holy Cross Church Glendale on the 26th of January 2020 in company of Frs Andew Doohan the Vicar general of the Diocese and Armando Pumeri Sdv the economo general of the Vocationist Fathers.
Sugarloaf Parish
The foundation of Church of Wallsend dated 1876 by Fr James Regan, the priest In-Charge of Lambton Church from 1873-1877.
On August 7, 1904, the Church at West Wallsend "Our Lady of Good Counsel” was completed, blessed by Right Rev. Dr. Murray.
The Parochial district of West Wallsend-Glendale was established around 1955, Holy Cross Parish was completed, blessed and open with Fr John Lavery as the Priest In- Charge.
The Parochial district of Glendale was established around 1960 with the blessing and opening of St. Benedict Church and School at Edgeworth with Fr Bernard Kennedy as the first Parish Priest at West Wallsend.
Around 1988, the West Wallsend Church and Glendale Church were combined with Fr Brain Bailey as the first Priest In-charge.
What we have today as Sugarloaf Parish was a combination of West Wallsend and Glendale parishes.
Sugarloaf Parish became a new Parochial area in the year 2000 with Fr Peter Rees as the first Parish Priest and Fr Christian Onukwugha as the present Parish Priest.
Within this new Parochial area, we have Holy Cross Church Glendale, Our Lady of Good Counsel West Wallsend, St. Benedict's Church and School Edgeworth, St. Nicholas OOSH Glendale, Goodstart Early Learning Glendale.
Vocationist Church In Alberta, Canada.
The months of April and May were the months of empty churches in the Archdiocese of Grouard- McLennan, AB as was the case in most parts of the world. The pandemic changed the traditional life of the Church. The faithful were dispensed from the obligation of Sunday worship. Spiritual communion was no longer an exception but rather it became the accepted norm. The social media replaced the churches. Only the angels and other invisible worshippers were metaphysically present with the priests at mass as no other person was allowed to be present. On Palm Sunday, the palms were blessed for people to pick them up privately. One could spiritually feel a full church but the pews were physically empty. The 2020 Holy week ceremonies, especially the Triduum, remain unimaginable fiction of a folktale under the brightness of a full moon night that became real for many priests because of the solitary nature of the celebrations. The third Commandment and the laws of the Church were universally put on hold for the first time in history.
By the end of the month of May, the dawn of a new hope came with the announcement of the first stage of reopening the Churches. Most of the parishes were quick to find safety volunteers, comprising of the safety coordinators, health screening team, registration team, ushers, sanitizing team, etc. The Safety Volunteers were to ensure the observance and implementation of the safety and health protocols necessary for reopening of Churches, as stipulated by the Government of Alberta and the Catholic Bishops of Alberta.
Our Vocationist Parishes of Grouard, McLennan and Girouxville were among the first parishes to find the necessary volunteers and reopened their Churches. In Grouard, (the first Cathedral of our Archdiocese) Fr. Bernard Akum is doing great to revitalize the pastoral ministry in the First Nations Communities and Reserves. A new Pastoral Council inaugurated by the Archbishop Gerard Pettipas, C.Ss.R, is in Place. Their Pastoral activities presently include Morning Prayers at 8.00 am, Morning mass at 9.00 am, evening mass at 7:00 pm on Wednesdays, visit to the sick on Thursdays, benediction on Mondays, whole-day exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on first Fridays, Catechesis in the school on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Sunday Masses: St Bernard Grouard at 10:30 am, Pea vine Church at 1:00 pm, Gift Lake Church at 3:00 pm and Atikameg Church at 4:00 pm.
In McLennan, the Actual Cathedral Parish, Fr.
Eucharius Ndjefemiti is keeping alive the pastoral life of the Parishes of McLennan and Guy. Some of the Pastoral Activities include: Morning mass at 9:am preceded by morning prayer, Rosary and Eucharistic Adoration, except on Wednesdays that the mass is at the Senior Citizens Home (Manoir de Lac) at 4:00 pm. Sunday Mass: Guy Parish at 9:00 am, McLennan Parish at 10:30 am;
Other activities include: Bible study, Spiritual assistance to Catholic Women League, Knights of Columbus, Ecole Providence, Monthly Parish council meeting, Finance council meeting every 3 months and Reconciliation before mass and on request.
The Parish of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Girouxville is a Parish of many active volunteers like most parishes I the Archdiocese. Fr.
Christian is keeping alive the pastoral zeal and enthusiasm in collaboration with the Parish Pastoral council, Finance council and other active committees in the Parishes of Girouxville, Tangent and Eaglesham. The Pastoral activities are almost the same with Grouard and McLennan.
The annual Archdiocesan Pilgrimage at the shrine of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Girouxville was
officially cancelled because of covid-19.
However, the Archbishop, the Vicar General and the Priest in-charge of Faith Formation were present for the Feast the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the first one Hundred people that registered for mass attendance.
On the night of July 25 and 26, 1930, Pianura was greatly shaken by the rumbling of an earthquake that caused some damage to the parish buildings and shook up all the people in town. Some people asked Fr. Justin if he was afraid during the tremor. Smiling, he answered:
"Afraid of what? When I realized that my bed was dancing, I prayed: ‘Lord, grant that my parishioners will take advantage of this lesson.’”(Servant of Divine Vocation).
Even though our Churches were closed and some people are still afraid to come back to Church, but pandemic has something to teach us. Let us join
