Being a fishing village the coast of covelong beach is occupied by so many fisherman.Hence there was a need to organise the landscape which includes the fishing community. Coconut tree varieties: west coast tall, east coast tall, chandrakalpa ordinary, kera saga

Just like a desert it lacks freashwater. Much of the beach is almost covered entirely in saltwater.Hence to protect the coast from disasters like,cyclone and tsunami, the naturally cleaned backwater is channeled to the coast through canals to form freash water coastal

This acts as a sponge to absorb the high wave action.
The first wave action is absorbed by the naturally formed inside mountain or raised land along the kovalam coast.This subtidal area is primarily composed ofloose minerals like coralgel,gravel,mud,sand and shell.
