22 secondi sono tremendamente lunghi quando sotto hai la terra che trema e sopra i tetti che crollano. La notte del 6 Aprile 2009 sono bastati 22 secondi per devastare una delle più belle città italiane e il suo territorio, dotato di uno straordi- nario patrimonio artistico e naturale. Dopo quella notte L’Aquila è divenuta lo scenario di un teatro dell’assurdo: fuori le persone spaesate ed esclu- se, dentro la politica nazionale ed internazionale, gli interessi speculativi e la rabbia.
In un periodo di quindici mesi di riprese, Ju Tar- ramutu racconta la città più mediatizzata e mi- stificata d’Italia, passata dalla rassegnazione alla rivolta attraverso mille trasformazioni, intrec- ciando storie di persone, luoghi, cantieri, voci e risate di imprenditori «sciacalli» che hanno sca- tenato la protesta delle carriole, quando ormai il terremoto non faceva più notizia.
“Un terremoto è un evento «assurdo», che ti fa in- terrogare sulla natura del reale e ti mette a con- fronto con l’insensatezza. Avrei voluto dare una mano… ma cosa si può veramente fare? Radio e tv bombardavano di notizie e raccomandavano di non avvicinarsi alle zone del sisma, ma alla fine io sono partito. Ho cominciato a vagare e a filma- re intorno all’Aquila, senza sapere dove andavo, mi sono messo a esplorare questi territori e a scavare con gli occhi. C’è un senso dell’insensa- tezza? Con passo dolente e appassionato, Ju Tarra- mutu insegue le vite precarie di alcune persone smarrite ma non rassegnate, persone che non hanno un seguito giornalistico o un passaggio in prima serata. Paolo Pisanelli adotta uno sguar- do empatico, in grado di interpretare gli umori, assecondare le passioni e sostenere le visioni di coloro che non vogliono darla vinta alle macerie o abbandonarsi a un futuro da rotocalco. In que- sto senso, Ju Tarramutu è un film squisitamente politico, perché entra nel cuore della città e ne registra il battito, sospeso per 22 secondi ma non ancora sopito. (v.i.)
22 seconds seem a lifetime when below the ground is shaking and above rooftops are caving in. On April 6th, 2009, 22 seconds was enough to lay waste to one of the most beautiful Italian cities and its extraordi- nary natural and artistic heritage. After that night, L’Aquila became the stage for a theatre of the ab- surd: outside, homeless people left in the dark; in- side, national and international politics, speculative interests and rage.

Paolo Pisanelli (Lecce, 1965) è laureato in Architettura e diplomato al Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Fotografo, dal 1996 si dedica alla regia di film-documentari partecipando a festival nazionali ed internazionali, dove riceve numerosi premi e riconoscimenti. Nel 1998 è tra i soci fondatori di Big Sur, società di produzioni cinematografiche e laboratorio di comunicazione. Svolge attività didattica di formazione. È ideatore e direttore artistico di RadioUèb (Roma) e di Cinema del reale, festa di autori e opere audiovisive che si svolge ogni anno nel Salento (Puglia). Paolo Pisanelli (Lecce, 1965) graduated in Architecture and later at the Italian National Film School (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia). A photographer by profession, since 1996 he has been directing documentaries that have been selected at several national and international film festivals, where he has been awarded with numerous prizes. In 1998 he was among the founders of Big Sur, a film production company and a communication workshop. He’s an instructor at training centers. He has conceived and directs RadioUèb (Rome) and Cinema del reale, a yearly festival of authors and audiovisual works (Salento, Puglia).

ing a thousand transformations, linking stories of peo- ple, places, rummage yards, the voices and laughter of «jackal» businessmen inciting protests even after the earthquake stopped making headlines.
“An earthquake is an «absurd» event that makes you question the nature of things and brings you face to face with meaninglessness. I wanted to help…but what can you really do? Radio and TV bombarded us with news; they told us not to go near the seismic area, but at the end I went. I began filming around L’Aquila. Without knowing where I was going, I be- gan exploring the region and digging around with
my camera. Is there meaning in meaninglessness? Maybe…” (Paolo Pisanelli)
Heartbreaking and impassioned, Ju Tarramutu fol- lows the lives of a people bewildered yet not resigned, people without a news crew or a spot on primetime. Paolo Pisanelli approaches his subject empatheti- cally, interpreting the mood, championing passions, lifting up the vision of those who don’t want to leave it to ruin or abandon it for a future in the press. In this sense, Ju Tarramutu is an exquisitely political film because it enters the heart of the city and records its beat, held for 22 seconds but not yet stopped. (v.i.)
