In letteratura ad oggi esistono scarse quantità di informazioni per quanto riguarda gli intervalli di riferimento relativi alle varie frazioni proteiche presenti nel siero felino e rilevabili con la siero- elettroforesi zonale, qualunque sia il mezzo di supporto impiegato.
Probabilmente questa scarsità di studi è legato al fatto che è difficile reperire un numero elevato di soggetti di specie felina, magari della stessa razza ed età, presumibilmente sani. Infatti solitamente sono portati all’attenzione del medico veterinario solo quando presentano evidenti condizioni patologiche. Si tratta di una realtà che è stata confermata anche durante l’elaborazione di questo studio.
Comunque tutti gli obbiettivi prefissati sono stati raggiunti, quindi gli intervalli di riferimento per ogni valore, assoluto e relativo, di ogni frazione proteica rilevabile nella siero-elettroforesi zonale su acetato di cellulosa e su gel di agarosio sono stati calcolati.

Confrontando questi intervalli calcolati nei due metodi siero-elettroforetici è emerso che esistono differenze statisticamente significative per quanto riguarda le singole frazioni e sottofrazioni
globuliniche, fatta eccezione per le γ-globuline. Quindi anche in questo studio è confermato che nella separazione elettroforetica delle proteine sieriche il mezzo di supporto impiegato può determinare differenze statisticamente significative circa la distribuzione dei valori osservati.
Inoltre è stato possibile rilevare con più frequenza nei tracciati realizzati su gel di agarosio, rispetto a quelli realizzati su acetato di cellulosa, la presenza di sottofrazioni a livello delle regioni α2 e γ- globuliniche.
Tra tutte le modificazioni riscontrate nei tracciati siero-elettroforetici eseguiti su gel di agarosio e riconducibili a soggetti patologici in circa il 19% dei casi (28 su 150) si ha un incremento delle γ- globuline.
Ricercando le patologie che interessavano i 27 soggetti da cui sono stati ottenuti questi 28 tracciati è emerso che l’alterazione patologica più frequente era l’insufficienza renale cronica.
Tuttavia l’aspetto dei tracciati iper-gamma-globulinemici può solo orientare circa una certa patologia.
In conclusione la siero-elettroforesi resta un metodo semi-quantitativo circa la determinazione delle varie frazioni proteiche presenti a livello sierico. Possiede numerosi vantaggi e numerosi svantaggi, ma, nonostante ciò, rappresenta per il clinico uno strumento di notevole aiuto, sempre se utilizzato appropriatamente. Non è in grado di fornire direttamente una diagnosi precisa, come è emerso dall’analisi dei tracciati iper-gamma-globulinemici. Tuttavia è utile per elaborare un corretto orientamento diagnostico.
